Jazz and Lucky - by Pat Cruse

We had just lost our beautiful Daisy at the grand old age of 14 years 10 months and 7 days. Daisy was a rescue who came into our lives and moved straight into our hearts. Five years earlier our Confetti had gone to the rainbow bridge. Both girls were much loved Dalmatians. We vowed never to have another dog, but I could not resist just taking a peak at the available Dals on the Dalmatian Rescue of North Texas website and there she was – Princess! She was a small little girl and, to me, she looked scared. I told my husband that I had seen a little girl that I wanted to meet, he at first said no way, but (as usual) relented and said well go ahead. I immediately emailed Anne that I wanted to meet Princess, but I didn’t hear back from her quickly enough and so on Monday I phoned. We agreed to meet the following weekend and I practically counted the minutes. I kept checking the website to make sure Princess was still available. One look and she was mine. We took her home to “try her out” for a few days, but Anne knew this little girl had found her forever home.

Anne is a wonderful lady who really understands dogs and people. She’s very clever too. While we were having our “get to know you” meeting with Princess, Anne introduced Lucky to us. Lucky had been in Rescue for way too long, but we only wanted one dog. But he stayed in my mind, so much that I continually checked the website only to find he still had not been adopted. Once again I told my husband that I felt strongly that we should bring Lucky home, and this time he agreed right away. I made the call just before the Holidays and Anne agreed to bring him to me so we could foster him for a while to make sure he and Jazz (formerly Princess) would get along. He became our second furry child on January 2, 2007.

Lucky is a wonderful, big boy. He seems grateful for the comfortable life he has now. He shares the sofa with us – it’s quite a sight to see two adults and two dogs sitting curled up together on one sofa. Lucky is very protective of his home and family. And very tolerant of Jazz’s antics. She is perpetual motion and Lucky would much prefer to snuggle and nap the afternoon away. Jazz, however, wants to run and play. If we could only harness her energy, I’m sure we could power our house with the excess. My house is once again full of fur balls from all the shedding, water marks from the water bowl and dog toys every where, not to mention the chewed legs on the sofa table! My once pretty house will not make a magazine layout, but it looks perfect to me.
